Knight Guide

  • Preclaimer: This guide refers to the Knight as a tank (Rima as MDD is not covered here).

Equip:

Currently, you are best equipped with a full set of plates from the highest HM inis. So Pantheon HM + Tomb City of Mirrors HM.
In addition, it is best to build 5 pieces of the new jewelry from the Mystic Altar HM. Parry + Crit is the best combination of non-stats that jewelry can have for a tank. For example, you can build a purple 3-piece set and an orange 2-piece set if you don’t want to go for the brown 3-piece set either way.  
Important: The set of 2 must have a different rarity level than the set of 3. 

It is recommended to build the shield as high as possible (plus & grade), as your strongest aggro skills (Shield of Truth, Whirling Shield) scale with the shield def. More on this later.

The main hand weapon is accordingly only graded and not permitted. A high plus level is also better here.  

Statutory:

There are various different opinions here. With the current content (where the bosses have a very high Pdef and as a knight you can’t get anywhere near good Patk values without 6/0 Str/Patk Gear) almost all knight tanks use the following stats:

Off/Pdef

Off/LP

Whether 4/2, 3/3, 5/1, etc…is a matter of taste or availability.
The 3 tank stats (inflexibility) with Off/Deff/LP are currently the best you can use as a tank. However, the availability here is very poor and the stats should not be considered in EQ planning.

Note: I do not recommend using Strength or Patk with the current content (Tombs/MA) under any circumstances. Some knights also have a so-called “Antank-EQ” which usually consists of a chainset with Str/Patk or Str/Aus, Off/Patk – don’t get confused here. Graves and MA can be reasonably tanky against any DD even without this EQ (assuming you use reconciliation runes and rest powder or the RiPri Aggroreduce buff).

The same applies to runes – anything that gives you Off/Def/LP is currently recommended. The best combination for LP/Def at the moment is Tyrant, Wall, Enchantment and Malevolence. Undaunted brings more def, but is a rune without stamina. Fullbuffed, it naturally loses a lot of stats compared to the other runes.

Guard of Heroic Spirits (Souls)

Battle Roar of the Lion King (Crypt)
Traces of the Cross Sword (Ice Blades) (The skill takes some getting used to in terms of AOE behavior as soon as the mobs are further away from you than Range 50. Try out a bit how and when to use it best.

Instead of Traces of the Cross Sword, you can also take the set kill from Rites. Would be a stronger dmg skill at the cost of an AOE. (Only makes sense in DD gear for Ini’s pantheon downwards)  
If you don’t have Tsunami or Battle Roar, you can replace them with Bow Slash and Lanaik’s Roar. (65 and 67 setskill)

Knight/Warrior:

The knight/warrior is primarily characterized by the fact that in addition to good tank (def) characteristics, you also bring good support characteristics to the ini. 

The support includes:

Commanding Deterrence – All damage the target takes is increased by 15% for 10s.

Divine Retribution (Passive) – Increases the damage dealt by Punishment by 26%. When Punishment hits a target, Light damage to the target is increased by 26%.

Slash (Warrior Skill) – Debuff option to support warriors (DDs) in the party.

  • Tank rotation:

Onslaught (already sets 2 seals)

Threatening attitude

Whirling shield

Holy seal

Punishment

(from here silence is usually counted) (3 2 1 deterrent or similar)

Slash (only if other warriors with a 2h weapon are part of the group -> if you are still completely inexperienced, it is best to leave it out and “practice” the rota like this first)

Tactical Smash (BK title if not taken by e.g. Healer) For aggro problems either replace with one of the 2 fire drills if you don’t already get them from the group, or in extreme cases with Ironblood.

After refueling, simply keep the following skills on cooldown:

Note: If there is no Dudu or Kundi/Scoundrel in the party to debuff the boss, the skill “Disarm” should also be used to maintain 4 debuff stacks on the boss.

If you can/want to use “Shield Strike of Truth” again, make sure that you are currently under the buff of “Explosion of Holy Power”. Otherwise, Shield Slam has no aggro multi.

As soon as the “Commanding Deterrence” is ready again and the boss phase allows it – warn> group in advance (5s lead time min – the Kundis will thank you for not just counting randomly) and re-count silence.

  • Kitty-rotation:

Even though the rotation itself is very playable by hand, many people (myself included) still prefer a combat engine for refueling. So here are my kitty settings.
Important: This is just the basic rotation. AoE’s in trash, defskills, disarmament if there is no dudu, etc… are always to be done with the hand in addition. This is mostly situational and should therefore not be integrated into a CE. Explosion of Holy Power can be kept on CD if you want to, but I personally prefer manual activation.

Knight/Priest:

The Knight/Priest is probably the most massive tank class, especially if your healer dies. Thanks to the high % Selfheal, Blessed Aura and Holy Protection and Shield Slam on a reduced cd (with enough sigils, this is a potent absorb shield), you can increase your own sustain considerably.
The Knight/Priest is also quite good at providing support. With Holy Enlightenment and a Battle Rezz, you can support your party well.
Furthermore, Call of Duty and Aura provide additional shields for your party members. Used correctly, they can prevent a wipe.

  • Tank rotation:

Holy Shatter should be saved until you have 4 seals and need a heal.

It’s not necessarily an ideal solution, but it’s enough for a basic rotation. If you’re more experienced, you can take the skill out completely and then fire it with your hand when you need the heal and the seals are on the boss.

Holy strike: No condition. This is your spam skill and should always be done when nothing else is free.

The 6 is the slot your witcher has in the DD group if it is group 1. Otherwise, simply replace it with the respective slot.

Knight/Magician

This section deals with the knight/mage as a pure tank. Even if the class is a bit “niche”, it offers some advantages over the other 2 options, especially in terms of survivability, especially when the equipment level is not yet quite so high. The knight/mage is probably the most massive tank class there is in the game, and can permanently reduce incoming DMG by around 40% compared to the knight/priest. In addition, especially in burst, the aggro build-up is extremely easy with the light damage add-on through intensification. Furthermore, with Silence and Lightning Strike you have 2 additional skills to interrupt bosses while casting spells. The disadvantage of the knight/mage, however, is that he cannot provide group support.

If you can/want to use “Shield Strike of Truth” again, make sure that you are currently under the buff of “Explosion of Holy Power”. Otherwise, Shield Slam has no aggro multi.  

  • Kitty-rotation:

Personally, I find the Rima a bit annoying to play with the hand simply because of the constant rebuffing of Field of Holy Light.
Important: This is only the basic rotation. AOEs in trash, defskills, disarmament if there is no Dudu, etc… must always be done additionally with the hand. This is mostly situational and should therefore not be integrated into a CE.
Interrupters such as Silence or Lightning Strike are also not included in the rotation.
Explosion of Holy Power can be held on CD if you want to. But I think it’s better with the hand.
